Our waste and environmental consultancy helps businesses, councils, schools and manufacturers in NZ who want to understand and reduce their environmental impacts. We provide comprehensive waste audits, sustainable event solutions, environmental accounting, develop internal waste reduction strategies, create product stewardship programs and conduct R&D into creating new recycling opportunities for non-recyclable materials.
Unlike the bigger consultants, we like to get our hand dirty.
Our History
Founder, Nelson Harper, was working in the food manufacturing industry as a process engineer where he noticed many businesses having a real passion, enthusiasm and need for real sustainability. The story was similar across many businesses with sustainability being important, but with the focus being on maintaining their core business, they didn’t always have the resourcing and know-how to focus their efforts on sustainability. With the commercial sector creating more than 80% of all waste in New Zealand there was a need to ensure the value was held by these resources and keep them circulating through our economy instead of moving down the value chain or going straight to landfill. With his broad experience in applied science, chemical bioprocess engineering, horticulture, healthcare, food manufacturing, construction, environmental accounting, and biodiversity, Nelson assembled a passionate team to form Precycle NZ. Our goal is to become the leading experts in waste alchemy, transforming waste in a valuable resource through science and technology.
Since its genesis in 2021, the Precycle NZ team has worked with many businesses, councils and organisations across many industries in the private and public sectors including food production, healthcare, plastics, construction & demolition, education, biodiversity, government, and more. We have partnered with many businesses, research institutes, recyclers and organizations to make sure you can use the best solutions available.
The world has enough talking, we are ready for real outcomes. We are looking to understand the waste of NZ, but most importantly we are finding solutions that make a real-world difference to your business, our industries and our country.

Our business aims to grow each of our team members and communities to the highest possible level. We have a high expectation of trust and respect within our team, and we hold this value true with our clients. We are providing post-graduate education opportunities and upskilling our team where we can. We also aim to connect our clients to opportunities for giving back to the community, like litter clean-ups in urban streams.
We want real change, and this means working with any business, council, school, or organisation that aligns with our values and vision. We understand that change can't happen in silos, and change requires a village, so we help connect the dots.

Natalie majors in Environmental Science and minors in Earth Science at Massey University, where she finds courses on how we affect our environment, such as human ecology, which is the study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments, fascinating.
"My interest in the environment and science was instilled in me at a young age, owing largely to my upbringing and parents. I developed an interest in nature and science while growing up on a lifestyle block surrounded by animals and nature after moving to New Zealand from Jersey at the age of six. My mother, a science teacher, and father, who has a PhD in Horticulture, fueled my interest even more."
Outside of work, Natalie enjoys being outdoors, whether it's riding horse, going on tramps, or just reading outside. She is an all-around great person to have on our team!
"Working with Precycle is a dream come true for me as I believe it's an excellent company that is currently and will continue to make a significant impact on reducing waste and helping to improve the environment. While my major is in Environmental Science, my minor in Earth Science is a huge passion of mine. It helps me relate our impact on the environment back to the soil and water systems of our earth, and who doesn't think volcanoes are cool?"
